About Us

Who Are We?

Frederick Flying Cows is a new professional basketball team based in Frederick, Maryland. The organization is one of about a half-dozen new teams joining the TBL for the 2024 season!

Frederick Flying Cows is a community organization that is invested in Frederick County and will put a high level, entertaining basketball product on the floor every game! Over time, Frederick Flying Cows seeks to become a part of the fabric of the community, and a team that will make the people of Frederick proud! The team will be dedicated to provide fun, affordable entertainment for Frederick citizens!

Frederick TBL home games will be played at the

BB&T ARENA

on the campus of Hood College in Frederick, MD.

WHEN WILL WE PLAY? ​

The league regular season runs twenty-four (24) games. Regular season play will begin in March, 2024 and will run through May, with 12 home games played in Frederick, MD. and 12 away games. League playoffs take place in June.

FAQ’s

The Basketball league is a nationwide professional basketball league that employs players who seek to play professionally in the USA and abroad. The league has seen some of its alumni make it to the NBA, and many other players have played in the G league and in top leagues overseas.

TBL teams are located across the country, generally in smaller markets. A complete list of teams can be found on the league website – www.thebasketballleague.net.

TBL games are designed to be family friendly. Single game tickets for TBL Frederick home games are $15 for adult General Admission and $10 for Child General Admission (Under 12 years old). Front Row, VIP & Suite tickets range from $35/person to $60/person

The Team name will be announced at 4:45 PM at Celebrate Frederick’s In The Streets festival on September 9th, 2023. The announcement will be made on the Carroll Creek stage.

The Fear The Beast team naming contest will run from August 11, 2023 through September 9, 2023. Visit https://goflyingcows.com/name-the-team/ to vote now!

The team will source and select players who have played in the TBL in the past and players who participate in Local, Regional, and National tryouts. Local and Regional tryouts will be held during September & October at locations around the DMV, with the first tryout to take place at Hood College in Frederick, MD at 12:00 PM on September 10th.  The National combine will be held in Indianapolis the first weekend in February, 2024

The team is scheduled to play in the TBL’s Eastern Conference

Home and Away games will typically be scheduled between Thursday & Sunday. The Team expects to have both evening and daytime home games during the season.

Ed Corporal

In June, the team signed Ed Corporal to be its head coach for the 2024 season. Ed is the winningest coach in TBL history with a .832 winning percentage in 5 seasons. A veteran coach who has been around the TBL since it’s inaugural year. Ed’s team in Enid, Oklahoma won the league championship in 2021 with the best ever record in the TBL of 30-3 which led to him being named TBL coach of the year. In 2020 his team also was in first place when the season was shut down due to Covid. Ed also has developed and coached three players that have come from his leadership in the TBL to the NBA. Over 37 years of coaching, Ed has coached at all levels including for the Washington Wizards, the University of Kansas under Bill Self, at a variety of professional leagues, at high schools in MD & KS and has found success at all.

Tony Mazlish

Mr. Mazlish’s career has been primarily focused on building brands within the retail and direct-to-consumer furniture and healthcare industries. Mr. Mazlish founded and grew a number of brands, including, X-Chair – a direct-to-consumer, wholesale, and b2b office chair company; Healthy Back Store – a chain of specialty stores offering higher-end ergonomic furniture and accessories designed to help relieve back and neck pain; Mavix – a direct-to-consumer ergonomic gaming chair brand, founded in 2020; Svago – a direct-to-consumer and wholesale zero gravity chair brand; Travel-Pal – a self-inflating travel accessory sold through specialty retailers and on Amazon; Sit4Less.com – a direct-to-consumer reseller of Herman Miller products and other office chairs; 1-800-Pillows.com – a retail and direct-to-consumer specialty store concept dedicated to selling sleeping pillows. Mr. Mazlish, through his family company, TAZED Investment Partners, is currently investing in a variety of start-up companies.

Michael Witt

Michael worked in the non-profit sector for 15 years working on renewable energy and environmental issues. In 1998, Mr. Witt jumped to the business side, launching E&E News, an information, high-dollar, subscription-based, online news service reporting on the policy, politics, business and science of energy and environmental issues. The service targeted Congress, the White House, federal agencies, corporations, state governments, universities and other professionals with a stake in these issues. Starting with 6 employees and a weekly paper product, E&E News grew over the next 22 years into a 100+ employee company with five daily online publications. Mr. Witt sold E&E News at the end of 2020 to POLITICO. Mr. Witt currently has a number of investments in startup companies in the Washington, DC metro area.

Chris Jenkins

In June, the team hired Chris Jenkins to be its General Manager. Chris is a young local Frederick executive with a background in Sports & Event Management. For the past seven (7) years Chris has run the Governors Challenge High School basketball tournament in Salisbury, Maryland, the award winning and largest High School basketball tournament in the country, featuring teams at all levels, including nationally ranked teams, boasts over a dozen NBA players alumni, and built a reputation as one of the best experiences in basketball. In addition, Chris has vast experience in operating a plethora of events including basketball events in Frederick, 400 team national tournaments, festivals and more. Chris has also worked directly with professional sports teams, as an account executive for MLB, NFL & NBA teams, as well as a strong background in sport tourism.

Tavares brings a skillset that includes elite rebounding prowess, suffocating defense and a reliable outside jumpshot. In 2018 for the Kansas City Tornados, when the TBL was known as the NAPB, he had a game for the ages. On May 6th against the Yakima Sun Kings, he scored 41 points and grabbed a ridiculous 22 rebounds to lead Kansas City to the victory. He brings a unique level of experience and success to the organization, as he holds the distinction of being the winningest player in TBL history with a record of 72-19. In 2019 also with Kansas City, he was 3rd in the league with 23.3 points per game, led the league in rebounding with 13.7 per game and was named to the USBasket.com All-TBL first team. In 2021 he helped lead the Enid Outlaws to a ridiculous 30-3 record and the TBL Championship. He scored 16.8 points per game and grabbed 10.1 rebounds. This Enid team is widely considered to be the greatest team in TBL history. In 2023, he made it back to the TBL Finals with St. Louis Griffins but fell to the Potawatomi Fire in 3 games. For the Griffins, he averaged 13.5 points per game and 6.2 rebounds per game. Tavares is very well traveled, having played in Ecuador, Chile, Mexico, and Saudi Arabia.

Charlie is widely known for his deadeye three-point shooting ability. As a Junior at Molloy College, he broke their single season three point record with 88, then broke his own record the very next year hitting 90. He has played professionally for 6 seasons including 3 in the TBL. In 2021, he, along with Tavares Sledge, led the Enid Outlaws to a 30-3 record and a TBL Finals victory. In game 1 of the finals, he scored 39 points and poured in 8 three-pointers. For Enid, he averaged 18.8 points per game, shot an incredible 48.4% on 3 pointers and led the TBL in 3 pointers made with 125. In 2022, for the Syracuse Stallions, he scored 19.8 points per game, shot 44.7% on three pointers and was 5th in the TBL in three pointers made with 120. On May 25th, against the Pennsylvania Kings, he scored 41 points and made an incredible 13 three-pointers. In 2023, he averaged 20.6 points per game across 10 games with Syracuse and 10 games with the Wichita Sky Kings. Prior to the 2024 TBL season with Frederick, Charlie will be playing for Grengewald Hostert of Luxembourg.

Tevin brings an incredible level of athleticism to the organization, having starred as a 4 sport athlete at Lawton High School in Oklahoma. In 2013, hee initially attended the University of South Dakota planning to play football and played in 12 games as a defensive back recording 21 tackles, 4 pass breakups, a fumble recovery and an interception. He then decided to realize his basketball talents instead, starring at Drury University and then later transferring to Abilene Christian University. He has played professionally for 4 seasons, including 2 for the Potawatomi Fire. In 2022 he led the Fire to a 2nd round playoff appearance, and averaged 13.2 points per game. In game 2 of that 2nd round series against Shreveport, Foster poured in 25 points and hit six 3-pointers. In 2023 he helped the Fire take the next step and win the TBL championship.

Quantel is a bruising center who is not afraid to put in work on the low block. He has played in the TBL since the league’s inaugural season in 2019. For the Kansas City Tornadoes in ‘19, he averaged 5.6 points per game, and had an impressive 63.6 FG%. In 2021, along with Tavares Sledge and Charlie Marquardt, he helped lead the Enid Outlaws to a historic 30-3 record and the TBL Championship. In 2022, Denson returned to Enid and helped them to a Central Conference Finals appearance. In the 2nd round of the playoffs against Dallas, Denson put up 12 points and grabbed 7 rebounds to help Enid take the win and the series. In 2023, he averaged 4.7 points per game in 6 games for the Medora Timberjacks.

An adept scorer and rebounder, Lyle possesses a hulking 6’8” 220 lb frame which often gives him a valuable size advantage. As a senior at Peru State in 2019, he was selected as a 1st team NAIA All-American. Later in 2019, he appeared in NBA Summer League games for the Memphis Grizzlies. In 2021, he played for Manchester Giants of the British Basketball League and put up 15.8 points per game along with 6.9 rebounds. Lyle played his first season in the TBL in 2023 for the Potawatomi Fire, helping lead them to a TBL Finals victory. For Potawatomi, he averaged 13.6 points per game and 7.3 rebounds. In game 1 of the TBL Semifinals, against the Seattle Super Hawks, he scored a season high 37 points, including six 3-pointers, and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the Fire to a 124-105 victory. In the championship clinching game against St. Louis, he pulled down 13 rebounds to help secure the title.
