About Us

Who Are We?

The Frederick Flying Cows are a professional basketball team based in Frederick, Maryland that participates in the 94X50 League. The Flying Cows debuted on March 2, 2024, at The Hood College Athletic Center against the Reading Rebels with a thrilling 113-112 come-from-behind victory, showcasing the electrifying plays and the passionate fanbase that would define the franchise in their inaugural season. Immediately proving themselves as a top team, the Cows placed first in the eight-team Atlantic Northeast division and finished their season with a final record of 20-6. To follow the impressive debut season, the Cows started their second season with an 18-0 record and finished the season 25-6 with Mid-Atlantic regular season division and Southeastern post season conference championships! 

The Frederick Flying Cows have become and strive to be a part of the fabric of the community and a team that will make the people of Frederick proud! The team is dedicated to providing fun, affordable entertainment for all Frederick citizens!

94X50 is a professional basketball league featuring eight teams across the United States, from Baltimore to San Diego. Named by the fans after the dimensions of the basketball court, 94X50 is committed to delivering the highest level of professional basketball in the USA outside of the NBA, and providing exciting, family-oriented community entertainment. The league regular season runs twenty-four (24) games. Regular season play will begin in March and will run through May, with 12 home games played in Frederick, MD. and 12 away games. Coach Dan Prete joins the Frederick Flying Cows for his first season, bringing over 30 years of coaching experience at the high school and international levels. Throughout his career, he has coached and developed 58 Division I scholarship players and seven NBA athletes, including Kevin Durant, Justin Anderson, and Terrence Ross. Mr. Mazlish’s career has been primarily focused on building brands within the retail and direct-to-consumer furniture and healthcare industries. Mr. Mazlish founded and grew a number of brands, including, X-Chair – a direct-to-consumer, wholesale, and b2b office chair company; Healthy Back Store – a chain of specialty stores offering higher-end ergonomic furniture and accessories designed to help relieve back and neck pain; Mavix – a direct-to-consumer ergonomic gaming chair brand, founded in 2020; Svago – a direct-to-consumer and wholesale zero gravity chair brand; Travel-Pal – a self-inflating travel accessory sold through specialty retailers and on Amazon; Sit4Less.com – a direct-to-consumer reseller of Herman Miller products and other office chairs; 1-800-Pillows.com – a retail and direct-to-consumer specialty store concept dedicated to selling sleeping pillows. Michael Witt

Michael worked in the non-profit sector for 15 years working on renewable energy and environmental issues. In 1998, Mr. Witt jumped to the business side, launching E&E News, an information, high-dollar, subscription-based, online news service reporting on the policy, politics, business and science of energy and environmental issues. The service targeted Congress, the White House, federal agencies, corporations, state governments, universities and other professionals with a stake in these issues. Starting with 6 employees and a weekly paper product, E&E News grew over the next 22 years into a 100+ employee company with five daily online publications. Mr. Witt sold E&E News at the end of 2020 to POLITICO. Mr. Witt currently has a number of investments in startup companies in the Washington, DC metro area.

In June 2023, the team hired Chris Jenkins to be its General Manager. Chris is a young local Frederick executive with a background in Sports & Event Management. For the past seven (7) years Chris has run the Governors Challenge High School basketball tournament in Salisbury, Maryland, the award winning and largest High School basketball tournament in the country, featuring teams at all levels, including nationally ranked teams, boasts over a dozen NBA players alumni, and built a reputation as one of the best experiences in basketball. In addition, Chris has vast experience in operating a plethora of events including basketball events in Frederick, 400 team national tournaments, festivals and more. Chris has also worked directly with professional sports teams, as an account executive for MLB, NFL & NBA teams, as well as a strong background in sport tourism.

FAQ’s

The Basketball league is a nationwide professional basketball league that employs players who seek to play professionally in the USA and abroad. The league has seen some of its alumni make it to the NBA, and many other players have played in the G league and in top leagues overseas.

TBL teams are located across the country, generally in smaller markets. A complete list of teams can be found on the league website – www.thebasketballleague.net.

TBL games are designed to be family friendly. Single game tickets for Flying Cows home games are $15 for adult General Admission and $10 for Child General Admission (Under 12 years old). Front Row, VIP & Suite tickets range from $35/person to $60/person

The team will source and select players who have played in the TBL in the past and players who participate in Local, Regional, and National tryouts. For more information on tryouts, visit the Events page.

 The National combine will be held in Indianapolis the first weekend in February, 2024

The team is scheduled to play in the TBL’s Eastern Conference

Home and Away games will typically be scheduled between Thursday & Sunday. The Team expects to have both evening and daytime home games during the season.

Charlie Marquardt

Guard

Charlie is a well versed player with experience playing for the NBA G League, internationally, and as a TBL champion. At Molloy College, Charlie was coached by his father where earned All American and All Metropolitan First Team. He went on to earn First Team Division Czech Republic and become a 1st division Czech Republic champion. In Uruguay, Charlie was a leader out of all of the  South American leagues in most 3PTs made, earning him honorable mention in 2022. Playing for the Outlaws, Charlie became a TBL Champion in 2021, one of the most defining moments of his career, and his life.
